Welcome to Crossville, Tennessee!

We are located atop the beautiful Cumberland Plateau on Interstate 40 and only a short drive to Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. The 2,000 foot elevation offers a mild, four season climate year round and our rural area offers an abundance of outdoor possibilities, with mountainous wildlife reserves, lakes, streams, and the Cumberland Mountain State Park.

We are known as the Golf Capital of Tennessee.  With more than a dozen pristine courses in our community, Crossville has become a golfers' paradise of national recognition; however, the opportunities and activities are endless.  Our Cumberland County Playhouse serves more than 165,000 visitors annually and the historic Palace Theatre on Main Street is always active.  We are also the location of the United States Chess Federation headquarters, a restored railroad Depot & Caboose Visitor's Center,
and part of the World's Largest Yard Sale on Highway 127 North.

Our youth opportunities abound with nine elementary schools and two high schools and we join the State of Tennessee promoting two years free post-secondary education at our Tennessee College of Applied Technology.

And don't forget to check out the recreational and retirement communities like Lake Tansi Resort and Fairfield Glade.

Looking to retire?

The number one reason why Crossville, Tennessee is desirable as a retirement area
is because it is a relative bargain - active adults who move here from a major city or anywhere near the east coast will find that they can retire in far greater style for a lot less money. The area has been on the upswing since FDR’s New Deal targeted it for economic development. There is also great beauty and outdoor recreation from its location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Cumberland Mountain State Park is situated on the Cumberland Plateau, a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama. It is said to be the largest timbered plateau in America. Cumberland Mountain State Park began as part of the greater Cumberland Homesteads Project, a New Deal-era initiative by the Resettlement Administration that helped relocate poverty-stricken families on the Cumberland Plateau to small farms centered on what is now the Cumberland Homestead community. This 1,720-acre park was acquired in 1938 to provide a recreational area for some 250 families selected to homestead on the Cumberland Plateau. For more information on retirement in Crossville TN visit the chamber of commerce website.

The park is located around Byrd Lake, a man-made lake created by the impoundment of Byrd Creek in the 1930s. The park is set on the Cumberland Plateau and provides numerous recreational activities, including hiking, swimming, picnicking and interpretive programs. The park also features a popular area restaurant and separate recreation hall that can accommodate up to 250 people.

Cumberland Mountain State Park has many options for overnight accommodations. There are numerous fully furnished cabins available throughout the year. The campground has more than 140 campsites for tents and RVs. There is also a designated place on the overnight trail for backcountry camping.

The Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain Golf Course is one of the most sought-after sites among the Jack Nicklaus designed Bear Trace golf courses in Crossville. The 6,900-yard, par 72 layout features a design that capitalizes on elevation changes as well as natural features, such as flowing brooks and clustered, mature pines.
